OUR MISSION

Designed by and for First Responders

Operation Longevity™ aims to improve the lifestyle of law enforcement professionals so that we, as a community, can become the best we can be.

The program is founded on the principles of mindfulness and meditation, which are lauded across all industries and walks of life for their ability to reduce stress, enhance performance, heighten insight and promote a lifestyle of resilience.

Operation Longevity encourages participants to “learn by doing.” Individual, partner and group exercises facilitate skill mastery by enabling participants to practice the resilience skills and identify strategies for immediate application in their personal and professional lives.

ABOUT

Peter J. Killeen, Ed.D

Peter J. Killeen, Ed.D, knows firsthand the serious toll that emotional and physical stress can take on the individual. As a recent police academy graduate, Dr. Killeen was among the first officers to respond to the 1975 bombing at La Guardia Airport that killed 11 people and injured 74. The events of that day left an indelible mark on Dr. Killeen. It was only after he had left the police force to pursue a career as a counselor that he realized he had Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS).

In 1992, Dr. Killeen began working as a police psychotherapist with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Unions. It was in this role that he found himself involved extensively with the rescue and recovery efforts following the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. Over the ensuing weeks, Dr. Killeen began experiencing the same tell-tale symptoms of PTS, “but this time I realized that I had something many of my law enforcement colleagues did not: the training to navigate the emotional challenges thrown at me that day.”

Then and there he made it his mission to share his knowledge for the benefit of these men, women and their families. Operation Longevity™ is the fruit of that commitment.

Throughout his career, Dr. Killeen has also served as Employee Equal Opportunity mediator and Wellness Counselor for The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. (ATF)

EDUCATION

Peter Killeen received his doctorate in counseling psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Arlington, VA. He holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Loyola College, Baltimore, MD., and a master’s degree in theological studies from The Washington Theological Union, Silver Spring, MD.

In addition to providing Operation Longevity training to law enforcement agencies and academies across the country, Dr. Killeen has authored many books on ways that these professionals can personally integrate mindfulness, resilience, and meditation into daily life to achieve a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle.

These include the “Operation Longevity Textbook” which works together with the “Operation Longevity Personal Journal,”  the “Operation Longevity Personal Stories and Meditations,” the “Operation Longevity 21 Day ‘Call to Action’ Coin Challenge,” and the “Operation Longevity and First Responder Resilience.”

COVID-19
(Corona virus)
Fallout Recovery

COVID-19 (coronavirus) has brought an unprecedented level of stress, anxiety and fear to the world of first responders. Beyond their own concerns for the health and safety of their families and themselves at this time, first responders are being asked to also respond to the elevated concerns of the people within their community.

This can often lead to exhaustion and “Secondary Trauma,” which is also known as “Compassion Fatigue.” Operation Longevity is available to provide tips, advice and counseling to help first responders manage the pressures being placed on them as a result of this pandemic, and to help them achieve overall wellness and resiliency.
